In 1950 GM decided to use the 235 in several of its automobiles that were going to have the new Powerglide automatic transmission. In 1953 all Chevy 235 engines that were used with Powerglide transmissions were upgraded with a fully pressurized lubrication system as well as hydraulic lifters.
